Taste The Comedy

Confession: I love fruitcake. Not those gooey bricks sold at the drugstore. I'd rather have a nice, traditional dark loaf...preferably soaked in brandy or, better yet, bourbon, like the ones those Trappist monks at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky make. The cliched adage about not judging a book by its cover couldn't be truer when it comes to fruitcakes, because not every fruitcake is made the same. You never know what it's really like till you take a bite. And that's the moral of the holiday comedy Fruitcakes. Presented by Theatre Arlington, the play features a cast of oddball small-town eccentrics who, until you get to know them, appear, to outsiders, nuttier than, well, fruitcakes. Tickets are $10 to $15, and the play runs through December 21. For showtimes call 817-261-9628 or visit theatrearlington.org.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 7, 2 & 5:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 4. Continues through Dec. 21, 2008
