To grill or not to grill


This Bud's on Bobby--or at least that's how it was when my significant other interned with Bobby Flay at the chef's Mesa Grill restaurant in New York. Flay ended each night with a round of complimentary cocktails for his staff (which almost made up for later sending them down a rickety spiral staircase to the creepy food storage basement below). Regardless, culinary pretty boy Flay has always managed to keep his street cred as a back-slapping man's man while also appealing to the ladies (witness the nervously giggling females when he does his thing on CBS' The Early Show as a food correspondent). Come get your fix on either side of that equation when the famed foodie figure signs copies of his new book, Bobby Flay's Grilling for Life: 75 Healthier Ideas for Big Flavor From the Fire, a healthy-eatin' follow-up to Bobby Flay's Boy Meets Grill and Bobby Flay's Boy Gets Grill, on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Borders Books & Music, 10720 Preston Road. Sorry, fellow pack rats, this book is not for you. In Saving Stuff, Don Williams, senior conservator of the Smithsonian Institution, and his co-author Louisa Jagger say to narrow your list of collectibles down to 10. "Saving Stuff is about preserving and maintaining 'the museum of you,'" they say, and your museum is much smaller than the Smithsonian. Super Souper

6/25 Who needs a gourmet kitchen when you have, uh, the mall? That's right, go from buying flip-flops to learning about haute cuisine and wine in less than 60 seconds when Super Chefs Live! comes to North East Mall on Saturday. The food court will be just a vaguely unpleasant memory as you watch celeb chef and cookbook author Caprial Pence fire up her pan. Marc Silverstein, the face of the Food Network's Best Of TV show and related book, Best of the Best Of, will also be on hand to help with the cooking and the witty banter. Chef Tim Love of Fort Worth's Lonesome Dove will bring some local flavor to the day's menu of events, which culminates with a live cook-off at the end of the day during which select audience members will help out as "sous chefs."
