To Be Frank

If you've ever watched Fox NFL Sunday and thought, "Gee, I'd like to see a whole lot more of that guy who does the John Madden imitation," you're in luck: Frank Caliendo is on tour. Maybe it's unfair to reduce him to that. After all, Caliendo is a remarkably versatile impersonator who can do dead-on imitations of George Bush, Al Pacino and the entire cast of Seinfeld. But the routine that put him on the map, the one he is contractually mandated to do on every talk show and radio performance, is his Madden. If I were starting out as an impression comic, I'd pick guys less familiar than the announcer on Monday Night Football or the U.S. President. In fact, I've already thought up a long routine imitating historical figures such as Betsy Ross and George Washington Carver ("Guy was obsessed with making stuff from peanuts! What do you think it was like when he gave his wife a present? I think it went like this..."). The audience would have to take your word for it. Frank Caliendo performs at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. in Dallas. Tickets are $41.75 and available at 214-373-8000 or
