If you haven’t heard of it, WNYC’s Radiolab is like This American Life’s cool little brother. As with This American Life, there are moving stories, freak phenomena, surprising coincidences — but with a lot more science. And sound effects. On their show, hosts Jad Abrumrad and Robert Krulwich have explored ant super colonies that span multiple continents, massacres of Hmong during the Vietnam War with inexplicable yellow powder, and exactly why it’s so hard to measure pain. (Apparently that last one has been attempted often in history, and a lot of time it just involves giving women burns right after they’ve given birth. Oh, science.) And now they’re coming to the Verizon Theatre, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie, at 8 p.m. Monday. The last time Radiolab went on the road, the title was “In the Dark” and this time around the theme is no less ominous: “Apocalyptical.” Abrumrad and Krulwich are famous for their ability to make variations on a theme, so it’s safe to say it’s impossible to guess what Apocalyptical’s stories will be or where they’ll go. But the ride should be thrilling. And informative. Tickets go for $37.50-$47.50. Visit verizontheatre.com for more information.
