I used to feel scarred by memories of the garage sales of my youth, which my parents would hold in the dead heat of summer. Despite the excitement of random visitors to watch, it would quickly get boring to sit there in the garage praying to the oscillating fan gods while mothers lazily picked through old clothing and their kids rummaged through my old toys. Now with Shabby Chic and Antiques Roadshow proving there's no telling what can be found in piles of junk, I have a deeper appreciation. I bet the people at Operation Kindness Animal Shelter are hoping lots of people will appreciate their Annual Operation Kindness Garage Sale. With items for pets and people alike, the sale runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at their Carrollton shelter, 3201 Earhart Drive.
