We've often wondered which one would win in a no-holds-barred cage fight: fiction or nonfiction? Until recently, we'd have to go with fiction, but these days it's mostly in the hands of teenage vampires and Harvard "symbologists." As for nonfiction, wild memoirs and true crime books contain far more dangerous and interesting characters, the type who would leave one young wizard shaking in his invisibility cloak. At the Mayborn Nonfiction Conference you'll find some of the major authors working in the medium today. There will be numerous lectures, opportunities to meet with literary agents, and a writing competition. Mary Karr, the author of The Liar's Club and the new memoir Lit, will be delivering the keynote address on Friday. Or you can purchase separate tickets for Saturday's fancy dinner in the Hilton Ballroom, to be followed by the Literary Lights awards with Mark Bowden--author of Black Hawk Down--as the keynote speaker. But the conference will go on for the whole weekend. For more information, visit the themayborn.unt.edu.
