The International Day of Peace, a day of non-violence and ceasefire, was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, and it's been pretty much war all over the planet since then. But we can dream, right? Peace—First Inward or First Outward? is the name of an art exhibit sponsored by ArtSpirit Mission, a new urban ministry of the North Texas United Methodist Church. Pastored by the Reverend Linda Perry McLemore, the mission fosters spiritual development through the arts. The Peace exhibit will feature a 5-by-10-foot Peace Mural created in honor of the International Day of Peace, observed on September 21 every year, as well as art by McLemore, Karen Blessen, Rebecca Briley, Merry Fuhrer, Rebecca Estes and Kevin Obregon. The venue is the Ice House Cultural Center, sponsored in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts, designed to provide a Latino-focused venue reflecting the diversity of Oak Cliff and surrounding neighborhoods. Meet the artists at a reception Wednesday, October 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through October 26, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays at 1004 W.
