If you don’t know of a Jellicle or an Old Gumbie, then you were likely born in the 1990s and aren’t into Broadway. That’s right, folks. We’re talking Cats, a favorite of those who came of age in the wah-pedaled 1980s. Confession: I was a pretentious lit-worm at the ripe old age of 8 or something when I discovered that T.S. Eliot was associated with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical. Having just begun my career as a lifelong dance-class taker, the obsession was quick and natural. I’ve seen it many times, and it has never disappointed — which is high praise for someone who is weird about spandex. I’ve only ever seen touring productions, because no one has ever taken on the Heaviside Layer locally … until now. Casa Mañana, 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth, presents Grizabella, Gus, Bustopher and their clowder from Saturday through March 9 in the first regional production of the show in North Texas. Visit Old Deuteronomy for $41 to $76. Call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
