More than just a Dallas cultural hub, Fair Park is a fascinating piece of Texas history. Much of the art deco shrine was erected in honor of the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition, despite the economic shortfalls of the Dust Bowl era. Still, you can’t help but wonder about the precise history of the murals, architecture and sculptures laid out through the place. There’s a new book out by local photographers and authors Jim Parsons and David Bush, and it’s set to demystify the area’s background. It’s called Fair Park Deco: The Art and Architecture of the Texas Centennial Exposition and it’s being revealed Thursday at the Hall of State (3939 Grand Ave.), in — you guessed it — Fair Park. You’ll finally get your questions answered and have a chance to pick up a book that any true Texan would love to own. The public reveal begins at 6 p.m. and is completely free to attend.
