While it’s true that we need dogs to feel complete, there are also times when they need us — like when they’re trying to get into a bar, without ID. This Saturday you can pay back your hound for all of his tireless dedication by taking him out for a night on the town. At the Third Annual Deep Ellum Pup Crawl and Poker Run, he can sniff tail while you drink beer. (It’s very important that those two scenarios are not reversed.) The afternoon kicks off at 12:30 at Reno’s Chop Shop (210 N. Crowdus St.), where you’ll get your first playing card. You’ll snatch up another at each bar you and Fido visit until you have a full hand to play with. Your $25 dollar donation gets you access to the tour de fur as well as the warm, gushy feeling that comes from giving money to the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, a group that places shelter runners into forever homes. Stops include a brewery tour at Deep Ellum Brewing Company (your dog has always wanted to go there!), the appropriately titled il Cane Rosso (Red Dog), Club Dada and St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin. All breeds of dogs and owners are invited, so stop making excuses and buy a ticket at galtx.org. The crawl ends at 6 p.m.
