It’s the second Saturday of the month, which means the Dallas Farmers Market is welcoming Chef Jeramie Robison for a demo. Robison is the executive chef at the Adolphus’ City Hall Bistro, and this weekend he’ll use local ingredients from vendors in the Shed.

Chocolate lovers, mark your calendars. Sampling, shopping, demos, lectures and a kids’ room make up a full day of fun this weekend at Dallas Chocolate Festival. World-recognized chocolatiers and chocolate makers will be there to educate and have fun with chocolate. Bonbons, chocolate bars, more tasty treats than any of us really need and some cool machines that make all of this decadence possible will be on display.

Standing in front of a daunting array of fresh cheese has its fun moments, but have you ever wanted to make your own? This weekend at The Mozzarella Company, you can learn how to make fresh mozzarella and fresh ricotta. You’ll also get a tour of the factory and enjoy a cocktail party with wine and cheese tastings. You’ll go home with a Mozzarella Company apron and the cheese you’ve made.

When Rusty Taco opened on Upper Greenville years ago, it was the perfect place to get a breakfast taco for students running to class at SMU. The owner, Rusty Fenton, was frequently there greeting customers and sharing his love for his business. After Fenton's death, Rusty Taco decided for some reason to change its name to R Taco. But Rusty Taco is back. They’re returning to the original name and celebrating with $2 tacos, music from Jayson Bales and giveaways all night. Plus, all proceeds benefit North Texas Food Bank.

Take advantage of non-100-degree heat as we get into September by sampling beer outside — lots of beer at that. The eighth annualDallas Observer BrewFest
is an outdoor beer-sampling festival that will offer more than 400 beers to sample. Food vendors and music will be part of the fun, too, of course. Twelve 2-ounce beer samples are included in each ticket. If you want to get in an hour early and get a few other perks, opt for the VIP ticket.

Pretend it feels like fall in Dallas with a beer dinner at Holy Grail Pub. They’ll have five chef-driven courses, each of which will play off of the flavors in a variety of craft beer styles. Some items on the menu that sound particularly good are the amuse-bouche of smoked catfish pate with sourdough pancakes, cured egg yolk paired with Ayinger Celebrator, and the entree of beef ribs with a garlic sauce and Romano beans paired with Alesmith Vietnamese Speedway Stout.

Here’s a random fact of the day for you: Okra in Vietnam is called “lady fingers.” That’s not all that useful to you unless you have a trip coming up, but here’s what is useful to you: Okrapalooza is coming to East Dallas. Some of Dallas’ top chefs will cook up the best okra dishes while raising funds to provide nutritious food to those who don’t have access to it.
