New Deep Ellum Cookie Shop Wants You to 'Just Eat the Fucking Cookie'

When asked if “eat the fucking cookie” — Cookie Shop’s attention-grabbing slogan — was her idea, owner McKenzie Mitchell giggles a bit before owning up to it.

“We have a good time doing our job,” she says. “Nobody’s pissed when you hand them a cookie.”

Her theory checks out. The buttery, big-as-your-head, near-religious-experience treats you’ll find at her new Deep Ellum shop are not going to piss you off. They’re all winners here, each cookie graced with its own personality. From the HP Mom (white chocolate-macadamia nut — ”dang she fancy”) to the Angler (named after the walnut chocolate chip cookie her mom always made for her dad’s fishing trips), they're all a joyful balance of sweet and salty.

Paired with milk on tap, these are the perfect midnight snack.

When she opened the shop about a month ago, Mitchell set out with the intention to get back to basics, a remedy to the trendy, Instagrammable “how much crap can we put on other crap” dessert fad. Given the shop’s warm reception, it’s safe to say her Betsy Ross (classic chocolate chip) suffers not at all from the absence of rainbow frosting and unicorn parts. Plus, she has a secret weapon: milk on tap.

Open late, Cookie Shop’s irreverent, night-owl personality fits right in with its Deep Ellum home. But is a $5 cookie ever worth it? Absolutely. Just eat the fucking cookie.
