Short on Daylight, Long on Spiritual Light

If you’re the type who puked a little at the idea of a Rick Perry Prayerapalooza, then Earth Rhythms’ 19th annual interfaith Winter SolstiCelebration may be right up your alley this holiday season. Not a religious ceremony so much as a collaborative spiritual event, the two-day celebration blends creative activity from dance and poetry to magic and circus acts in order to “guide the audience in an archetypal discovery of our human identity.” With a mind to social justice, nonviolence and eco-regeneration, the SolstiCelebration takes place on December 16 and 17 from 7 to 9 p.m., and includes a Yule Fest including food, Cosmic Carolers, a silent auction, photos with Father Winter and more occurring before and after. Bring a flashlight for a light ceremony and food pantry donations to the Cathedral of Hope at 5910 Cedar Springs Road. Tickets are $15, $12 in advance and $10 for children and seniors.
