The transformation of the old Village Marquee space will be completed with the opening of Toko V on Thursday. The renovation and re-branding marks the third attempt to open a successful restaurant in the space in less than three years.
Earlier this August, the downstairs half of the renovation was completed with the opening of Village Kitchen. Chef Andre Natera stayed on after the closure of Village Marquee, overhauling the menu to focus on what he says are more familiar dishes. Roasted chicken, ribs and a Pecan Lodge-smoked brisket flatbread mark the chef's attempt at creating a neighborhood restaurant.
Tokyo V, by comparison, which is housed in the upstairs potion of the restaurant space, promises new Asian cuisine and cocktails in a sleek, modern setting. While Chef Andre Natera will head up both spaces, he's brought in sushi chef Daniel Chau to take charge of Toko V's sushi menu. Chau worked as head sushi chef at Steel Restaurant & Lounge most recently.
The Toko V menu offers salads, small and big plates and bowls. Pickled vegetables and tempura green beans mark a few of the snacks, while big plates include miso salmon barbecued ribs and strip steak. There's ramen on the menu, too. The sushi bar will plate up a number of different signature items, including snapper ceviche, smoked himachi, and a slew of sushi rolls alongside traditional sashimi.

The old Village Marquee bar space has been renamed Village Bar, rounding out three spaces that the Twomey Concepts owners (The Common Table) hope will have a larger draw in tandem than the original restaurant had on its own.
Here's hoping the third time's the charm.
