Some of the best pie in North Texas just got a little bigger. Emporium, the pie-in-the-sky-idea that started out as a pop-up in the Bishop Arts District less than two years ago and quickly won over waistlines throughout the city, just opened its second shop in McKinney over the weekend.
The new spot is open on the square in downtown McKinney at 107 S. Tennessee St. And it's certainly no coincidence that one of the greatest pie days of the year is just about a week away. Both locations are taking pre-orders. Pies are available for pick-up any time in the original location in Bishop Arts, but only on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in McKinney.
Last year during the holidays, the two pie girls, Mary Gauntt and Megan Wilkes, slept on air mattresses in the store to bake pies throughout the night to fulfill holiday orders. Hopefully, with the expanded operations, they can tuck in at home this year.
Holiday pies include Drop Dead Gourdgeous (spicy pumpkin custard with a gingerbread crust), Lord of the Pies (everything you dreamed apples could be) and The Drunken Nut (bourbon and pecans).
