As a countdown to the Dallas Observer's "Best of Dallas" 2010, City of Ate is serving up 100 of the favorite dishes we crave, savor and hope to scarf down again soon. These dishes are in no particular order. Some are little known, others celebrated. Some are pricey, others can be eaten on the cheap, but all are delicious to the extreme. Don't hesitate to share your own nominations in the comments.

The roast duck, roast pork and barbecued pork platter at First Chinese BBQ is a Cantonese celebration of meat. First Chinese BBQ is, arguably, the Dallas/Fort Worth Chinese food institution. With several locations throughout the area, the original in Richardson still is the best. All locations serve up the same menu, but the quality of food at the Richardson location, inexplicably, is unmatched. The thick and beautiful cuts of meat in the roast duck, barbecued pork, and roast pork combination platter are a prime example. The thick slices (more like slabs) of barbecued pork are lean yet tender and coated with an addictive sweet, red glaze. As for the roast duck and roast pig, thin crispy skin covers just the right amount of animal fat. Unlike many other restaurants, the thin layer of fatty tissue manages to satisfy all of our inner gluttons without being unbearably greasy. The best thing about the dish? The generosity. First Chinese's combination platter of lovingly cooked meats will set you back only $13.95, to feed you and whatever child army you decide to bring.
