Demonstrated by Reza Anvarian of Southpaw's Organic Café
"There's only two things I know how to do. My mother taught me how to work in the kitchen and my uncles taught me how to box."
Reza Anvarian opened Southpaw's Organic Café in October of last year, taking a break from professional boxing to focus on the other thing he's good at. This guy is high-energy and low-b.s. And you could say the same for his health-minded menu.
Featuring wholesome ingredients like preservative-free meats and organic fruits and veggies, Anvarian also boasts, "there's no sugar in the building!"
Still with us? Just take deep breaths and trust in agave nectar, the second most famous product made from a certain desert-dwelling Mexican plant. Well, third if you count mezcal. This natural sweetener is the secret to making the Nutty Monkey smoothie we're whipping up today just sinful enough to make you forget that it's healthy. You never know--make one of these creamy concoctions and maybe you'll be inspired to pick up on that New Year's resolution that fell by the wayside last month.
Step 1: Layer the following in a blender: ½ banana, 1 tbsp. agave nectar and 1 heaping tsp. organic creamy peanut butter. You know, the non-Plainview kind.
Step 2: Pour in 1 cup soy milk and ¼ cup coconut milk. Coconut milk? Healthy? Who knew? But we'll take Anvarian's word for it; from the looks of things, he knows what does a body good.
Step 3: Add one cup ice, blend until smooth and drink to your health. Or drink to what we're thinking might be a great hangover helper. But you didn't hear it from us.
