Quittin' Time is back, bringing you tips on where to get your happy hour drink on -- or not.
Where: Beauty Bar, 1924 N. Henderson Ave. When: 5-9 p.m. Monday through Friday What: $10 martini and mini-manicure, $1 off most drinks Why: Because sometimes you just want to feel pretty. Why not treat yourself to a mini-manicure and martini at a fraction of the price either would normally cost alone? In a fresh venue doused in glittery gold, pink and emerald pastels, the hipster hangout with holdings from New York to Portland brings a glamorous option to the Dallas happy hour scene. For 10 bucks we got our nails done while sipping on a specialty martini made with Beauty Bar's own house vodka. They call it a 'traditional' mani, just a buff and a paint, but if you're lucky, a mini massage might accompany your after-work escape.
In keeping with the zeitgeist of the 1950s, "The Daddi-O," "The Rat Pack" and "The Ritchie Valens" are among the tasty beverage choices, best enjoyed while lounging in vintage dryer chairs after your midday indulge. Munching on free nuts, treats and the occasional cupcakes, it's not just a stop off for the pampered ladies. Whether arriving via fixed gear or minivan, the crowd pivots from business professional to frat boy to everyone and their mom. And if the more macho haven't been frightened away just yet, everything but tip-top shelf liquors are also a dollar off. Plus, with the amount of booze crammed into these martinis, though the manly may balk at "The Red Bouffant," as their saying goes, "remember not to fly off the handle or you'll end up in the can."
