Another busy month has come and gone and with it a handful of restaurants have opened and closed. Read on for the full list of restaurants happenings in January, and be sure to share tips about new and/or dead restaurants in the comments section below or at [email protected].
Openings:
Sunset Lounge (3030 Ross Ave.): The restaurant and bar is open (again) on Ross Avenue, and according to its website, Sunset Lounge is a "neighborhood bar with a Bohemian ambiance highlighted by sounds of southern California and an Austin artistic twist."
Origin Natural Food ( 4438 McKinney Ave.): The new coffee bar/health food spot is now open on McKinney Avenue.
Mudsmith Coffee (2114 Greenville Ave.): Brooke Humphries (business woman behind Acme F&B, It'll Do and Barcadia) opened Mudsmith Coffee in the space on lower Greenville that once housed Shade nightclub.
Joyce and Gigi's (1623 N. Hall): The mother-daughter run restaurant located on Ross Avenue is serving up South American fare.
Magnolia Cheese Factory (1251 W. Magnolia St.): This artisan cheese shop offers up fresh cheese along with soups, salads, sandwiches and other snack foods.
Green Grocer (3614 Greenville Ave.): The tiny, Chicago-based grocery store has found a home on Greenville Avenue.
Outpost American Tavern (1115 N. Beckley Ave. ): The restaurant that was once Campo Modern Bistro has transformed into what Scott Reitz describes as a "decidedly more neighborhood pub-ish and relaxed" space.
Rodeo Goat (2836 Bledsoe St.): Fort Worth has a new, unpretentious burger joint.
Cafe Herrera (5307E. Mockingbird Lane): The Herrera's that closed on Fitzhugh Avenue has moved to Mockingbird Station.
20 Feet Seafood Joint (1146 Peavy Road): Marc Cassel opened a seafood restaurant in the same shopping strip that houses Goodfriend and Good 2 Go Taco.
Closings:
BEE: Best Enchiladas Ever (202 W. Davis St.): Monica Greene's enchilada restaurant on Bishop shut its doors in late December.
Farnatchi (3001 Knox): The tiny Mediterranean restaurant located in Knox Park closed back in December and recently opened under new ownership.
Mextopia (2104 Greenville Ave.): The Mexican restaurant on Lower Greenville, run by Ricardo Avila, has closed.
Coming Soon:
La Grange: A a new bar/restaurant will open in the closed La Grange space in Deep Ellum.
White Rock Market: The local market's second location will be open on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the Lakeside Baptist Church, 9150 Garland Road.
