Poster of the Week: Deerhoof and Yann Tiersen at The Loft on Wednesday Night

Now, listen: There is, in fact, a chance that the above image will not approved by the artists in time to serve as the official show poster for the very eclectic bill taking place at The Loft on Wednesday, February 2, with Deerhoof and Yann Tiersen. We're not saying it definitely won't be -- but, as we write this, it still hasn't gotten the OK.

Nonetheless, this is our winner for the week -- for, we think, fairly obvious reasons.

Created, once again, by the disgustingly talented team of design folks at Magnificent Beard, this image works well, at least in part because of its comic book design. A little backstory: This shared bill with Deerhoof and Tiersen is a one-off thing, with the bands booked together on the same bill simply because they happen to be in town on the same night. And maybe it's a stretch to assume so, but we think the comic book aesthetic works extremely well specifically because of this reason -- since it's not unlike a comic book issue in which two heroes join forces for a limited issue run.

Plus, it's awesome to see Tiersen drawn in full-on stereotypical French dude garb and Deerhoof vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki imagined as a cracked-out Powerpuff Girl.

Even better -- it's only a three-color design (black, gray and light blue), proving once again that simplicity is always the best route to take in poster design.

Lastly, since it's a pretty specific design, we're thinking there's little chance this idea gets stolen. At least, we hope not.

Think your poster is better? Want to see one of your designs get honored next week? Drop us an e-mail with an image promoting an upcoming show right here. Oh, and, when possible, be sure to do so at least a week in advance of the show. Thanks!
