Just got an email from Mary Hestand, leader of that fabulous group of female 40-something retro-rockers Merry and the Mood Swings, informing me that the lineup is set for a special concert to be held at the Dallas Women's Museum during the upcoming State Fair of Texas. According to Hestand, organizing an all female lineup of groups and solo acts has been, you guessed it, a real bitch! Seems the folks at the Women's Museum were insistent that all performers be females. No males allowed on stage at all, trannies and crossdressers included. The event happens October 19th and starts at 6 p.m. Scheduled performers include: Kristy Kruger, Lisa Mickelson, Karen and Amy Jones, Hope Cassidy, Armintha Williams, Beth Wood, Lost by Reason, Tracy Rice, Susanna Choffel and, of course, Merry and the Mood Swings. The schedule is as follows:
Fri. Sept. 26 Beth Wood Sun. Sept. 28 Tracy Rice, Lost by Reason, Lovie Sat. Oct. 4 Karen and Amy Jones Sun. Oct. 5 Lisa Mickelson Sun. Oct. 12 Kristy Kruger, Suzanna Choffel Fri. Oct. 17 Hope Cassity Sun. Oct. 19 Armintha Williams, Merry and the Mood Swings

Wow, that's a load of estrogen, not to mention a great selection of area folk, rock, gospel and blues. So, when you're filling your stomach with fried pickles and need some good music to aide in digestion, this talented bill of females should prove more than worthy. --Darryl Smyers
