Back in November, we had our rock 'n' roll worlds, well, rocked. The perpetrators of said rocking? Tel Aviv's Monotonix, of course. Back then, the sweaty fun actually started before the band stormed The Loft in Dallas. In a Q&A we ran in advance of the band's November show at The Loft, lead guitarist Yonatan Gat dispensed some relatively hot opinions that rubbed some our commenters the wrong way.
Then came the show. Oh, the show.
On a chilly Friday night, their headlining set went from odd to chaotic to gross and back to chaotic in an anarchistic mélange of bodily fluid, overweight superfans and dirty, blues-powered punk that literally knew -- or at least refused to acknowledge -- no boundaries inside and outside of the venue.
So, it's nice to see that the outfit's new, Steve Albini-produced record, Not Yet, manages to at least reach for the fury of their live show, even if it doesn't completely scale the same gnarly heights (or depths, depending on your point of view).
And, in advance of Monotonix's return the region this weekend for a show at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton, the band's been kind enough to share a track from the new disc with DC9 readers. In addition to the free song, the band's also been kind enough to pass along a free pair of tickets to the Sunday night show. After the jump, check out the song, and find out how to win your free passes.
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winner!
