Even if you weren't a big fan of Jay Reatard or one of his countless bands, you can't help but tear up a bit at the trailer for Better Than Something, the new documentary about the Memphis musician, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 29. "I was tossed into this world and I'll be tossed out," he says in an interview less than a year before his death. Do all artists who have that sort of meteoric rise always see their fate?

Starting tonight and running through Monday, you can catch the film at The Texas Theatre. Saturday night, there will be a punk and garage rock after party with Travis Box and Turn the Smithson. Buy tickets here.
