The Felons, The Push, Binary Sunrise, Douglas Woodlane 10 p.m., Saturday, March 22 at The Cavern
We wrote about The Felons in our paper last may, documenting our marvel at then-15-year-old wunderkind Fred Holston's bass keyboard parts. Well, he and the Felons are still kicking, and if you haven't had a chance to see them yet, here's your golden opportunity to experience their brand of semi-psychedelic ambient rock.
Robert Gomez, Sarah Jaffe 10 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton
Have you seen Robert Gomez? OK, I'll admit that I haven't yet, but the guy, just back from SXSW, has got some solid buzz going around town for his acoustic rock sounds. And he's been described to me as a Kramer-like character because he's got crazy hair and he's something like seven feet tall. Pair that with everyone's favorite local set of female pipes, Sarah Jaffe, and you've got yourself a show worth attending, my friends.
Brent Best 9 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio in Denton 9 p.m., Sunday, March 23, at The Barley House
Brent Best is a busy man of late. After hitting South by Southwest with his full band, The Drams' front-man immediately booked a full weekend for his own solo act. He played the Double-Wide on Thursday night, and, if you missed that show, you can catch him either Saturday or Sunday nights. We've yet to see Best perform solo, but if it's anything like his Slobberbone or Drams efforts, you can expect some rockin' bar band-inspired alt-country tunes.
Punk Bunny, Dr. Mobutu, Sticky Buns and Friends 10 p.m., Sunday, March 23, at Hailey's in Denton
Punk Bunny's beats are pretty weak. Yet with their vulgar lyrics and partying reputations, Hailey's is bound to turn into a sexed-up rave on Sunday night. Head on up to the little d if that sounds like your style. Just be sure to bring protection. -- Pete Freedman
