In 2011, "Big" Gus Samuelson was named the Best Radio DJ by the Observer, thanks to his role as host of the Lone Star Underground on KHYI 95.3 The Range. He also hosts other shows on the station, but he's not just talented in the radio booth.

As leader of Big Gus & Swampadelic, Samuelson has been at the helm of a cajun-country-soul combo for several years now. After hundreds of shows throughout our area and around the state, the band has a proper full-length album available, which should make the term "Texas music" impossible to define. A mixture of Western swing, swamp-pop and blues gives Parlangua a heart, and Big Gus wanted to make sure readers got a taste of what's been boiling in his pot. Here's "Honest Lie," one of our favorite cuts from Parlangua.
