Ruby Jane, the 17-year-old fiddle phenom, lives in Austin but got her start right here in Dallas. It's hard not to love her. Even Willie Nelson has chimed in with praise for the young country singer, who just released her latest album, Celebrity (Empire of Emptiness).
Nada Surf, Air Review
Thursday, June 28, at Granada Theater
It's been a few years and a handful of albums since Nada Surf had a hit, and well over a decade since they had their first with "Popular." The band's mid-Aughts resurgence was a surprise to all, not only because they were thought of as a one-hit wonder, but because of pop songs "Blonde On Blonde" and "Inside of Love." Odds are that both songs will be played tonight.
Thursday, June 28, at WinStar Casino
You'll have to drive to Oklahoma and pay at least $60 to see this show, but you might win it all back at the slot machines.
Friday, June 29, at Verizon Theatre
This will fulfill my lifelong goal to see Bobby Brown perform live.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Friday, June 29, at Poor David's Pub
Ramblin' Jack Elliott's shows are legendary. They almost get in the way of the stories Elliott tells. In fact, he often interrupts songs just to tell more stories. Dude's a legend, and he's old. So go see him while you can.
Saturday, June 30, at Gexa Energy Pavilion
Bon Jovi and Def Leppard may never tour together again, but their tribute acts are performing together at Gexa Energy Pavilion along with 13 other various tribute outfits.

Los Angeles rapper Schoolboy Q worked the streets as a drug dealer long before he started rapping. He's still riding high on his second full length album Habits & Contradictions, which came out earlier this year. Locals A.Dd+, Brain Gang Blue, Dustin Cavazos and -topic open.
Classical Mystery Tour
Saturday, June 30, at Fort Worth Botanic Gardens
I love the Classical Mystery Tour. A really good Beatles tribute act is joined by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in a pristine outdoor setting. It's hard to beat.
Sunday, July 1, at El Sibil
Daniel Hart's fantastic 2012 record The Orientalist is matched only by his live performances, during which he switches from violin to guitar and back. He's even repurposed a Dance Dance Revolution electronic mat to trigger different effects while his band crafts well-orchestrated pop songs.
