Father John Misty
Tuesday, October 16, at House Of Blues
Josh Tillman's debut as Father John Misty, Fear Fun,
is already penciled in many music critics' 2012 best-of lists. Reports about his May show at Sons of Hermann Hall were
excellent. We can only expect this show to be just as solid.
A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown, $25
Friday, November 2, at House of Blues
Scoremore's going above and beyond with the hip-hop shows they're bringing in. This one is a triple-threat.
Coathangers, Jaill, Sealion
Friday, August 3, at Bryan Street Tavern, $10
Parade
of Flesh love them some Coathangers, which is why the Atlanta punk
quartet will be coming back again. Milwaukee Sub Pop act Jaill will
provide direct support and locals Sealion will open.
Mindy Smith
Sunday, October 7, at The Kessler Theater, $15
Mindy
Smith has the Nashville Americana/country market cornered. She gets a
lot of comparisons to Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin, but I think her
voice is more akin to The Sundays' Harriet Wheeler.
Dub FX, Flower Fairy, Snareophobe, Starfighterz
Wednesday, October 10, at South Side Music Hall, $22
This looks to be some sort of organized dubstep rave kind of a thing.
New Order
Friday, October 12, at Palladium Ballroom, $49.50
I'm
pretty confident the last time New Order came to town was in 1993
on their Regret tour, which brought them to Coca-Cola Starplex. I
didn't discover the greatness of Regret and the rest of the band's
massive catalog until several years later, so my
anticipation, like many others around these parts, is high.
Grouplove, Alt-J
Saturday, October 13, at House of Blues, $18
Popular
breakout buzz band Grouplove play what will almost certainly be a
sold-out House of Blues show in October. You have to strike while the
iron's hot. The buzz only lasts a short time.
Tomahawk
Wednesday, October 31, at Granada Theater
Hard
to argue with the quality of musicians in this metal super group: Mike
Patton of Faith No More, Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard, John Stanier
of Helmet and Battles and Melvins bassist Kevin Rutmanis.
Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler
Thursday, November 1, at Verizon Theatre
The man's a living legend, perhaps the greatest
songwriter of all time, but for the last decade I've heard many a
passionate debate on whether his live shows are still any good. In our dream scenario, he'd play Dealey Plaza.
Deerhoof, Liam Finn, Skating Polly, Formica Man
Saturday, November 3, at The Prophet Bar, $12/$15
Breakup
Song is the eleventh studio album from San Fransisco's
Deerhoof, who will be touring here in November. Notably, Liam Finn, who
has almost as good a pop sensibility as his father, will be direct
support.
