To answer a question that may be gurgling in your mind: Yes, we are big Harry Potter fans.
After the movies' scope became somehow more massive after Prisoner of Azkaban (and proceeded to assuage the loss we felt post-LOTR), we just couldn't help but be fans. And now that Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part One is upon us, we can't help but feel our days are puny in comparison to the epic battle of good versus evil.
In this light, we'd like to present six songs that would enhance the epic-ness of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- both part one and two. Just imagining these songs (which you can find after the jump) in the movie, gives us goosebumps.
1. Led Zeppelin - "In the Light"
If you know Zeppelin, you should know that Physical Graffiti is their White Album. Besides the epic length (eight-plus minutes) and the arguable, somewhat-inherent reference to Lord of the Rings, "In The Light" is about journeys and love and all that shit. Harry Potter assuredly has it on his iPod, which he'll, hopefully, have blaring during a spell-casting battle with He Who Must Not Be Named Dark Lord.
2. Meatloaf - "I Would Do Anything For Love"
Possibly one of the greatest songs ever recorded by a human being, "I Would Do Anything For Love," in both title and length, defines epic. It is epic. Now, imagine, Harry Potter seeing the green-tinged ghosts of his parents while this song plays.
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Simple Man"
Some people on staff here would argue that "Simple Man" is the best Skynyrd song. Aside from that, here's our prediction: Harry Potter listened to this quietly in his room before taking on the He Who Must Not Be Named Dark Lord.
4. Guns N' Roses - "Knocking on Heaven's Door"
Don't want to be a spoiler of any endings, but this'd be a good epic choice for the credits sequence. And, yes, this is the version of the song we think works best.
5. Jimi Hendrix - "All Along the Watchtower"
Forrest Gump aside, is there a better epic movie soundtrack song out there? Harry Potter is with it; he understands you have to respect your elders and you can't just bust out the cock rock. You need something epic from the '60s or the '70s. Surely there is a drug spell that can enhance the potency of this song. He's got a journey alone in the woods, for God's sake.
6. Led Zeppelin - "Ten Years Gone"
OK, yes, this song is also from Physical Graffiti: but it's about eagle's nests and the meaning of our souls! Its heavy, grinding guitar is perfect for Harry Potter soaring on some kind of giant horse-bird.
