The Dirty Heads, Shiny Toy Guns, Midi Matilda, Oh No Fiasco Wednesday, February 13, at House of Blues Tickets go on sale Friday for California's reggae and hip-hop band The Dirty Heads, who put out their second full-length, Cabin by the Sea, earlier this year. See them with L.A.'s synth-pop group Shiny Toy Guns, whose debut album earned them a Grammy nomination. Electro-pop duo Midi Matilda and Knoxville's dance rock group Oh No Fiasco open the show.
Excision, Paper Diamond Friday, February 22, at House of Blues, $25/$30 Canadian DJ Excision is coming to town, apparently to bust your eardrums. The heavy bass and dubstep DJ is will be headlining a show with opener Paper Diamond. The tour promises true 3D video-mapped animations, creating an intense audiovisual experience. Break out the tutus and headdresses.
South by So What?! 2013 Saturday, March 16, at Quiktrip Park, $35-$79 In an effort to cull DFW's concertgoers who will not be attending South by Southwest in Austin, but still want to see some of the bands playing there, South by So What?! will be throwing its sixth annual festival, featuring more than 40 bands. So far, this year's announced acts include Breathe Carolina, Enter Shikari, Attack Attack!, Chelsea Grin, Woe Is Me, Why?, Architects, Issues, Chunki No Captain Chunki, Dayshell, The Medic Droid, Close Your Eyes, Sworn In, Set It Off, Handguns, Hands Like Houses, Fit For a King, Heartist, Buried in Verona, Crossfaith, Adestria, Myka Relocate and From Atlantis.
Alt-J Saturday, March 16, at Granada Theater, $19 English quartet Alt-J are headed to Dallas this spring after the recent release of their debut album, An Awesome Wave. The psychedelic folk-pop group recently won the 2012 British Mercury Prize, awarded for the best album of the year in the United Kingdom and Ireland. They're kind of a big deal.
Spillover 2013 Sunday, March 17, at Sandbar Cantina, $16.61 Formerly known as Bro Fest, Parade of Flesh has changed the name of their sixth annual one-day event to Spillover. Acts announced so far: Black Tusk, Broncho, Jaill, Mondo Generator, Nobunny, The Orwells, Single Mothers, Vietnam, White Mystery, Widowspeak, Zechs Marquise and a "mystery guest."
