Update, 7/15: The most recent word on Randy Travis came Friday night from Baylor Health, at which point the singer was under sedation and still in critical condition. I feel a little silly continuing to publish these updates, because the information is very readily available to you. The updates you're seeing everywhere from the hospital can be found in the Baylor Health Online Newsroom, and Travis' publicists are updating his web site with much the same information. If you want the latest official word, just go ahead and bookmark either or both of those sites. We'll let you know if we find out something you can't readily learn elsewhere.

Original post follows...

Randy Travis, who has been in the hospital since Sunday with a congestive heart condition, suffered a stroke last night. He underwent surgery and is currently in critical condition. A statement on the legendary country singer's website offers the basic information and continues, "His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."

We don't know yet what Travis' prognosis is, short term or otherwise, but the situation is certainly grave. A spokesman for Baylor Health tells us they have no pending updates -- their last was at 10:48 p.m. last night, to tell people that he's out of surgery and in critical condition.

The stroke followed a day of improvement for Travis, who was transferred from Baylor Medical Center in McKinney to The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano on Monday.
