Kitchen Dog Theater's New Works Festival started Friday at The MAC and runs through June 22. Here's the lineup:
Se Llama Cristina by Octavio Solis is the mainstage feature of this annual festival of new plays and script readings. A couple (Israel Lopez, Vanessa DeSilvio) wake up after a heroin bender and can't remember their names, much less how they met or where their baby is. Baby? What baby? Directed by Christina Vela. Through June 22.
One: Man.Show. KDT company member Tim Johnson's solo show uses mixed media and cabaret elements to tell the story of his life. In the black box space. Through June 15.
Barbecue Apocalypse by Matt Lyle. Reading, with the playwright in from Chicago, of a new comedy from the writer of The Boxer (which premiered a few years ago at FIT and has gone onto many productions around the country). 1 p.m., June 1.
Skinless by Johnna Adams. Pulp horror of the 1950s, delusions, the legend of skinless people - a grad student looks into all of it in this new play directed for the reading by Lee Trull. 4 p.m., June 1.
The Dangerous House of Pretty MBane by Jen Silverman. A look inside the safe-house for lesbians in a dangerous neighborhood in South Africa. Directed by Rhonda Boutte. 7:30 p.m., June 4.
Kill Floor by Abe Koogler. Austin playwright Koogler will be in the house for the staged reading of his new play about a woman released from prison who takes a job in a slaughterhouse. Her teenage son is a committed vegetarian. Winner of the new KDT/University of Texas at Austin MFA Playwrights New Works Festival Project prize. Directed by Chris Carlos. 2 p.m., June 8.
Spark by Caridad Svich. Three sisters deal with the aftermath of war in contemporary America. Directed by Christina Vela. 1 p.m., June 22.
Monsterheart by Kathleen Cahill. A family horror comedy from the writer of KDT's 2010 hit Charm. The Centers for Disease Control say zombies don't exist but one family finds that's wrong one strange Thanksgiving Day. Directed by Sally Vahle. 4 p.m., June 22.
