The Dallas Watersports Complex -- which, as we mentioned back in May 2009 and again in February, will be located on Fish Trap Lake in West Dallas -- says on its Web site that it's "coming Summer 2010." Not quite, according to an item in front of the council's Economic Development Committee first thing this morning: Says here construction will begins on the $2.1-million cable park next month with September as the completion date. The ED committee's getting a sneak peek because the council's being asked to kick in $250,000 toward the completion of the four-cable course and complex, which will be open seven months out of the year and be run by Victor Toledo, chairman of the West Dallas Chamber.
The briefing also offers a little more info about what to expect -- including its selection as "the final site of the World Wakeboard Association National Championships on September 17-19, 2010." In other words, it really needs to be finished by then. What else can you look forward to for your $22-an-hour or $35-for-all-day pass?

The Complex will also include an approximately 5,000 square foot pro-shop and restaurant, an outdoor viewing area that will accommodate 200 people, volleyball courts, trampolines, and 150 parking spaces. Summer programming will include youth camps, wakeboard schools, splash days, corporate events and fund-raisers for non-profit agencies. Plans also include family areas, misters, waterfalls, and lagoons to combat summertime heat. ...
The Complex will create 25 full-time equivalent jobs or approximately 200 seasonal part-time jobs to run the facility and staff the restaurant and pro-shop. Future development could see the addition of an outdoor skateboard park, a ropes course, zip lines, and a wave-riding facility.
