In about an hour, the city council's Quality of Life and Government Services Committee will meet at City Hall, and while today's agenda isn't full of particularly sexy items (although ... need I say, "Amendments to Variances for Dogs on Outdoor Patios"?), there is one item in which most folks might have some interest. Today, the council's committee will provide an overview of its garage sale and estate sale Web site, which it expects to debut during the first week of April.

The reason for the site, says the city: The Department of Code Compliance gets some 1,300 "garage sale complaints annually," with "illegal garage sale signs" as the main reason. According to the city, the new city-run site will "allow City of Dallas residents to register and advertise garage sales for free -- reducing the need to post multiple signs." Me, whenever I heard the phrase "garage sale," this is still all I think about. --Robert Wilonsky

Update: From The Dallas Morning News at 1:53 p.m.: "Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway wants moratorium on garage sales."
