Hellooooo out there in the suburbs! Can you hear me above the din of SUVs, superstore chains and casual dining establishments? Good. Gather the kids 'round, because any miniature aspiring chefs among them now have the opportunity to make it big in the restaurant business. Or, at least in the Red Robin restaurant business. "America's gourmet burgers and spirits" joint (because nothing says gourmet like setting up shop in Hurst) is hosting a burger recipe contest for kids, starting yesterday and ending September 16.

Suggestions in past years have included gummy worms and chocolate, but if your kid is as sophisticated as the 10-year-old from North Carolina who won with an Asian burger recipe that featured Napa cabbage (what is wrong with kids these days?), they might have a chance at the grand prize: getting their burger featured at Red Robin restaurants next summer.

If you need to conduct research, take your tykes aged 6-12 to one of the six Red Robin locations in the Dallas-ish area. When you're done, download the form-thingie online and hope your kid knows something about fancy cabbage. --Andrea Grimes
