Jason Terry won't be there, but the rest of Dallas should be. When the Dallas Mavericks host the San Antonio Spurs tonight at 8:30 in Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals at the American Airlines Center, it will be this town's most important sporting event since the Dallas Cowboys hosted the Green Bay Packers in the 1995 NFC Championship on their way to a third Super Bowl in four years. Mavs win, and they are the favorites to win their first NBA title. Lose, and they'll be underdogs in a Game 7 Monday in San Antonio.

We have Texas-OU games at the Cotton Bowl, and the Dallas Stars were rumored to have played a playoff game this spring, but with the Cowboys and Texas Rangers' glory days in the rear-view mirror, the World Cup just a historical footnote and Hoop It Up fading into obscurity, tonight's game is the closest thing we have to hosting a major sporting event. So show up. Even if Terry can't.

Speaking of, we can bitch and moan all we want about his one-suspension being unfair (it is) and about how it was wrong for Spur Michael Finley to sit on Terry's head (it was), but the bottom line: The quickest way to get in trouble in this world is to go punch somebody in the nuts. Man law. Then again, just to get you riled up--like you aren't already--compare the video of Terry's so-called "punch" that spurred the suspension with the Reggie Evans "grab" that didn't merit a punishment.
