Moments ago, the Houston Chronicle reported that John Edwards has decided to, like, pass on delivering his speech to the Harris County Democratic Party during its September 20 fund-raising gala. Cannot imagine why. Also noted in the story: Harris County Republican Chairman Jared Woodfill's demand that Democrats "renounce campaign contributions from Dallas lawyer Fred Baron." Cannot imagine why. Woodfill also used phrases like "tainted" and "hush money." At which point Woodfill's Democratic Party counterpart down in Harris County said, real fast, "Tom DeLay and Kenneth Lay." They're meeting in the parking lot after school to settle it like men. --Robert Wilonsky
