For those who do not recall the story: In the wee small hours of August 12 of last year, 59-year-old Terry Glover's Jeep Cherokee stalled out in the middle lane of South Polk near Camp Wisdom. Glover, who was on his way home after dropping off his godson, hit the emergency flashers; he waited for help. Instead, the Army veteran's vehicle was violently struck from behind: Two Dallas Police officers -- Adam Stucki, who was driving, and Archie Beason -- slammed into the Jeep doing 45 miles per hour.
The two were headed to Methodist Charlton Medical Center on W. Wheatland; it was a nonemergency call, and the DPD car's lights and sirens were not on. Glover had no warning what was about to happen. As Scott Goldstein and Tanya Eiserer wrote: The officers "drove into the sport utility vehicle, pushing it through a metal fence and into the front yard of a home, its hazard lights still flashing." Glover was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he died from blunt force injuries at 7:15 a.m. during surgery.
DPD would release the dash-cam video of the collision. And DPD Chief David Brown would meet with Glover's family, including his elderly mother, who did not rule out suing the city over the officers' negligence. Instead, Nettie Glover filed a claim against the city. Tomorrow, behind closed doors, the city council will talk with City Attorney Tom Perkins about the terms of Dallas' settlement with Nettie over the death of her son; one week from tomorrow, according to its meeting agenda, the council will authorize the settlement: "Nettie Glover has agreed to settle this claim for the amount of
$125,000."
