Channel 11 had a piece last night about the breastfeeding mom and the party of 12 greeted by a New Year's Eve stray bullet coming through their bedroom ceiling. That footnote, as you'll no doubt recall, was part of DPD's crime-stats round-up yesterday. Today we get the DWI numbers, which are close to last year's stats.
The hours of this year's No-Refusal Initiative were extended given the long holiday weekend (you're drunk right now, aren't you?). According to numbers DPD just sent out, there were actually 34
DWI arrests between December 31, 2010, and January 2, 2011. Says DPD spokesman Senior Corporal Kevin Janse, between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 this morning 31 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated -- with six of those arrests resulting in search warrants and blood draws after drivers refused to submit to voluntary breath or blood tests.
As for Tarrant County, which is about to begin its high-profile public shaming, the DA's office there sends word: "We expect to begin posting the names of those charged with alcohol-related driving offenses on our website on Tuesday." Which could make for some awkward back-to-work "So, how was your holiday?" conversations.
