Forbes today is but the latest in a long line of media outlets to celebrate Big in Japan's made-in-Dallas ShopSavvy app, currently available only for the T-Mobile Android. The Stemmons Freeway-based developers are rushing as fast as they can to get their bar-code-scanning, price-checking app to the iPhone, but noted two weeks ago that "our biggest hurdle has been to perfect barcode scanning using a fixed focal length camera." Then, two days later, the company asked for iPhone owners' help -- probably could still use it, matter of fact, as they're looking for 1,000 users. "The faster we get this testing completed the faster we will submit ShopSavvy (oh and it will be free)," reads the post.

The iPhone version should be available by July, with a version for BlackBerry and Palm Pre to follow in the fall. In the meantime, this related heads-up: Big in Japan is hiring an iPhone applications developer -- one who must live in the Dallas area, as the start-up isn't looking to move folks to town at this point. So hop to.
