To be fair, the man couldn't have known Antonio Quintanilla was a cop. It was 3 a.m., and Quintanilla wasn't in uniform. He was just some guy smoking a cigarette on the balcony of the apartment below at the Villas of Katy Trail early on Saturday morning.
That said, Quintanilla's status as a certified peace officer -- one who's been awarded for saving lives, no less -- shouldn't have mattered. Dropping trou and urinating on a stranger's head is never a smart move.
Quintanilla wasn't sure that's what has happening at first. He merely felt a warm liquid dripping on his head. It was only when he looked up, thereby putting his face directly in the line of fire, that he realized he was being pissed on.
Give Quintanilla credit for remaining calm. Rather than go upstairs and beat the hell out of the guy as some might be inclined to do, he called 911. When his Dallas Police Department colleague arrived, Quintanilla led him to the balcony where the officer "was able to observe wet and humid areas where the urine had fallen and could smell a distinct odor," according to a police report.
The man upstairs, who had either passed out by this point or chose not to open the door, didn't answer the officer's knocks. Nevertheless, he was issued an at-large citation for misdemeanor assault. Because he was not arrested, police have not released his name.
