Well, it is an improvement: Variety's reporting that producers for the movie version of Dallas, which I feel like I've already seen and walked out on at this point, have chosen a replacement for departing director Robert Luketic. Her name is Gurinder Chadha, and she's best known for Bend it Like Beckham and, less so, Bride and Prejudice, her Bollywood redo of Jane Austen's beloved novel. I've interviewed her a couple of times and always found her to be thoughtful and delightful; she's an enormous improvement over the man who made Monster-in-Law, regardless. But if Chadha's really going to direct Dallas, she's got plenty of stuff in front of her, including the big-screen adaptation of I Dream of Jeannie, which she's been trying to do for more than a year (she was just getting the job when she was last in Dallas pimping Bride). Apparently, that former Larry Hagman propery isn't bound to happen soon; rumor is it's being sidelined. Hence, this haggard Hagman redo. --Robert Wilonsky
