I'm already a C-SPAN junkie--more gut-busting laughs and wrenching human drama than in a season's worth of E.R.--but now I've got a better reason to watch than Karl Rove's keynote address at the annual conference of the Republican National Lawyers Association, which airs live today at 3:15 p.m. (Swear to God, I am TiVo'ing this; it's like The Daily Show with Jon Stewat minus all the added-value Jewish jokes.) Congratulations to Angie Thomas, Kyle Dollof and Courtney Butler, Stephenville High School students who took third in C-SPAN's nationally held StudentCam competition by producing a documentary called Texas Redistricting: The Controversy, for which they'll each take home $500 in cold, hard cash. I'm sure Tom DeLay will be glued to the screen when the winning vidoes in the student competition begin airing Monday through April 21 at 5:50 a.m. on C-SPAN. All of the entries sound fascinating; in a press release issued today, Joanne Wheeler, vice president of education relations at C-SPAN, said, "We were thrilled with the quality of entries and diversity of topics, ranging from immigration to federal wiretapping and video game violence." Kids, they do the darnedest things, like make documentaries about federal wiretapping. All they want for graduation is to get on the government's watch list. --Robert Wilonsky
