Thanks to The Dallas Morning News' Over the Top blog, I sucked down a Tio's Tortas sandwich with my head buried in a just-issued 40-page study that says, among other things, Dallas radio audiences get not a single second of "progressive" talk. On the other hand, says here on page 20, there are eight radio outlets (all but one of which are AM-based) providing us with some combined 61 hours each day of conservative chit-chat. Hence the title of the report: "The Imbalance of Political Talk Radio," which ranks Dallas as the radio right's No. 2 market. No, really?
The chief local offenders -- or champions, depending upon your view of Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and their leftie-loathing ilk -- are Cumulus-owned KLIF-AM (570), with 14 hours; Salem-owned KSKY-AM (660) with a whopping 20 hours; and ABC's WBAP-AM (1190), which leans to the right 15 hours of every day. And, though you could likely figure it out all by yer lonesome, yes, the study was conducted by the Center for American Progress, the D.C.-based self-proclaimed "progressive think tank." But that doesn't mean it's wrong. It only means it isn't right. --Robert Wilonsky
