DJ Bemyfriend Lost His Laptop to Dallas Week, But There's a GoFundMe to Help Out

The 16Bars.XXX party Saturday night that capped off Dallas Week got a little rowdy. Rowdy was expected, maybe even encouraged, but there's always a threshold. During DJ bemyfriend's set, a gaggle of people found themselves wildin' out near the DJ booth and any DJ's worst nightmare began to take shape.

"It was a big puddle of water," bemyfriend says. His Macbook and turn tables got wet, effectively destroying the laptop. Then came the fruitless suggestions: "Turn it on and off" and "Here, wipe it with this T-shirt." But no dice. It was ruined and would stay that way.

Friend, fan and supporter Will Sutton decided on Sunday that he needed to help bemyfriend out. He took to the Internet like any good millennial fundraiser and started up a GoFundMe page. As of this morning, the campaign to restore bemyfriend's livelihood has collected $725 of its $3,000 goal. "We wanted to make sure as a community we got his computer back," Sutton says of the campaign. 


DJ bemyfriend, né Marcus Luera, is one of Dallas' most beloved DJs. He spins at most 16.Bars.XXX parties, provides the house sounds for much of the city's touring acts and provides the sounds for a number of other events. He's typically the only one who plays music that younger rap fans who check blogs and Soundcloud tend to relish alongside more classic songs. He's the one who you can expect to play Playboi Carti's "Broke Boi" alongside INOJ's "I Want to Be Your Lady Baby."

Considering a Macbook won't cost the full $3,000, Luera says if he meets the goal he plans on doing something special to reciprocate the support shown around Dallas. "This weekend really opened my eyes," he says of the response from fans and supporters.
