Leading up to our annual Best of Dallas® issue, we're counting down the 50 most interesting restaurants in Dallas. These spots bring something unique or compelling to the city's dining scene, feeding both your appetite and soul.

From the street, La Banqueta does little to differentiate itself from the other taquerias that dot the yet-to-be-gentrified neighborhoods of Dallas, but this small, local chain stands alone for its dependably delicious taco fillings. If you're craving tacos filled with the essence of beef, order the suadero, cooked extra crispy, and blanket the results in the light green sauce that's brought to your table. If you'd like that same taco with a little something extra, try the campechana, which folds spicy chorizo into the mix.

There are more adventurous tacos, if you're inclined to explore them. The tripas, ordered crisp, taste clean and have a snap, while the cabeza packs gelatin-rich and unctuous beef from a cow's head.

A recent move of the original location only improved the taco joint, with extra tables and seating and a team of servers who bring you your tacos on those familiar Styrofoam plates. La Banqueta is a no-frills, neighborhood taco joint and it's filled with a mix of customers from all walks who share at least one thing in common — a desire for delicious tacos inspired by the streets of Mexico City.
