This is exactly what Scott Griggs was worried about. As the Dallas City Council arduously debated whether or not to ban the Exxxotica adult expo from the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, the councilman told a packed house that the council was giving Exxxotica the best public relations it could hope for. The council was, essentially, martyring a tacky trade show that people wouldn't have heard of otherwise. The city is almost certainly going to get sued for excluding Exxxotica from a public space, and now it's going to have to contend with another adult-themed convention trying to book the convention center.
Late Thursday afternoon, Adultcon, an Exxxotica competitor that holds shows in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, confirmed that it has contacted convention center management about booking a 2016 event in Dallas. Jill Scott, a spokesperson for Adultcon, says the show wants to book the convention center because Adultcon "finds Texas to be an appealing market."
Adultcon, has not, Scott says, received a reply from convention center staff, but Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Executive Director Ron King confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that Adultcon made the request on Thursday, something that surely has nothing to do with the City Council vote Wednesday to ban Exxxotica.
