It's been a busy year in Dallas food.

Late-night Halal street food in Deep Ellum, Austin soft serve in East Dallas, big-name chefs shuttering restaurants and moving onto new projects — new eateries have been popping up around Dallas (particularly in Deep Ellum) all year.

But there can be no growth without loss. Zoli's shuttered in Oak Cliff (before announcing plans for a new location coming to the 'burbs). An on-the-rise restaurant in Fort Worth shuttered after only a few months. And a few weeks after walking away from his namesake restaurant group, Kent Rathbun's Plano restaurant Hickory has closed to make way for a new event space, DMN reports.

Take a look back at the year in food with this slideshow of our favorite bars and restaurants that have opened in and around Dallas in 2016.
