In this week's Dallas food news roundup, chef change-ups, a new cocktail bar prepares to launch by hosting a dinner series and Revolver Taco Lounge gets new digs:
- "Big changes are in the works at The Ivy Tavern, as this Dallas favorite debuts a new menu, launches a Sunday dive brunch and introduces a couple of all-star chefs into the kitchen," the restaurant announced this week in a press release. David Rodriguez (formerly of Denton's 904’s Kitchen & Cocktails and Oddfellows) is the new executive chef and Patrick Stark (formerly of Sundown at Granada) was enlisted to rework Ivy Tavern's menu prior to Rodriguez's arrival. The new Sunday brunch is a big part of their reformatting, according to the release. "Think of it like Sunday rehab, with all-you-can-eat brunch favorites like chicken and waffles, bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, granola with yogurt and fresh fruit and biscuits and gravy, plus a variety of rotating specials to ensure there’s always something new to try. And all for just $15. To wash it down, try the $6 craft cocktails and $3 mimosas."
Houndstooth Coffee at Sylvan Thirty has announced an opening date for Jettison, its cozy new cocktail bar that's accessible via a hallway by Houndstooth's kitchen. The bar opens Friday, Oct. 21, but leading up to the opening, the bar is hosting a dinner series "highlighting global cuisine in collaboration with chefs from around the city," according to a press release. The dinner series schedule:
- Lower Greenville has a new farmers market, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Granada Theater. The farmers market will happen every other week, according to a Facebook event page that also lists participating vendors.
- Leslie Brenner gave Uchi a new review this week, and it isn't pretty. She cited disappointing service and lackluster dishes, even leading with Uchi's popular charred Brussels sprouts, which Brenner described as "a mess of a dish." "It's not unusual to see quality drop at a new restaurant after all the reviews are in," Brenner writes. "But the difference between dinner at Uchi last year — when it earned a rare five-star review just out of the gate — and more recent experiences is, quite frankly, stunning. Those cold, black, oil-soaked orbs will stay on our table for more than 20 minutes after we've given up on them." Brenner downgraded the Hai Hospitality restaurant to three stars.
- Revolver Taco Lounge in Fort Worth, hands-down one of DFW's best and most inventive taquerias, has moved into its new space at 2418 Forest Park, according to Twitter. The new location opened Tuesday.
- This week, the Texas Rangers unveiled plans for Texas Live! , a development that will feature 200,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space centered on the new stadium in Arlington. Taxpayer funding for the new complex is pending a November vote. Stephen Young writes: "If Arlington voters turn down the new stadium, which is slated to receive about $500 million in public money, Texas Live! will still go forward, Blake Cordish, vice president with The Cordish Companies, the developer behind the project said."
- Cedar Grove has launched a new Sunday brunch, and it comes with a show: a drag show. Drag brunch happens Sunday, with shows at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Brunch plus the show will set you back $35.
- Long-running Italian restaurant Adelmo's Ristorante has opened its new location at 5450 West Lovers Lane, Guide Live reports. The restaurant's Uptown location closed in March and opened in September in the former Bijoux in Inwood Village.
- After imploding quite publicly a few months ago, the Rex's Seafood location on West Lovers has been empty — but it's about to become the home of a new seafood restaurant, D reports. Lynae Fearing and Tracy Rathbun, the owners of Shinsei, along with Aaron Staudenmaier, are planning to open a restaurant tentatively named Lovers Seafood and Market in December.
