At a recent gig, Dallas' Sarah Hamilton knew she was in for a good time when a dancing fan fell backward over the venue's monitor and spilled Hamilton's Lone Star...before the first song was even through. The dancing calamity is understandable; in concert, Hamilton sticks to a repertoire of boot-scootin' songs, but even so, referring to her music so categorically is a little unfair. On her debut, Call My Name, her soulful and sometimes throaty vocals wind through original and cover songs that easily move through folk, rock, country and blues. Keep an ear out for the Mary Chapin Carpenter-eque "I'm Better Than I Used to Be" and the storytelling ballad "Motel Keys." Hamilton has toured with Americana chart toppers such as Jesse Dayton and Hayes Carll and is no stranger to a good live show; just make sure to grip your beer tightly.
