Used to be if you wanted a public head-shaving, you'd go see The Banes. But since the sad demise of that band, one has few opportunities to "bald it up" onstage. Fortunately, St. Baldrick's, the patron saint of "what seems like a drunken frat prank but actually helps kids," has come along to provide just such an opportunity. Seven years ago, faced with spending a drunken evening gulping down green beer with colleagues, three dudes with a sense of humor decided to raise money at their annual St. Patricks Day celebration by shaving one anothers heads. With a silly stunt, said dudes have since raised tons of dough for children's cancer research. I once knew a guy that cut off his pinky finger for $500. These guys have raised millions and only lost their hair (which, as middle-aged insurance agents, you know they would have anyway). It's quite impressive, especially considering "Fingerless Fred" probably spent his 500 bucks on pot. My point is, hair grows back; why not support a good cause by joining in this year and trading your coiffure for cash? Shave your head with St. Baldrick's from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at The Tipperary Inn, 5815 Live Oak St. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Call 214-821-6500 or visit tippin.com.
